Winter Fun - Part 4
Here are four more fun winter DIY ideas for you to try out this week!
1. Essential Oil Snow
Maybe you live where there is a ton of snow... maybe you don’t! Maybe you just want a fun activity to do while the kids are home from school. Try this out
What you will need to make your own snow: 1 lb baking soda, shaving cream (unscented is best), and 2 drops of Lavender (or whatever you prefer) essential oil.
Lay a blanket or table cloth down and pour the baking soda into a large bowl. Add the shaving cream (and some glitter if you want!) Have the kids “knead” the snow. That's it! When it is time to clean up just shake the blanket out and vacuum any snow leftover. Baking soda and essential oils are natural cleaners - so hey! A bonus!
2. Blueberry Cardamom Scones
I can not wait to share this recipe for blueberry cardamom scones with you!
You need: 3 cups all-purpose flour, ⅓ cup sugar, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 12 tbsp butter (cut into pieces), 1 pint of blueberries, ¾ cup of milk (set aside an additional 2 tbsp), 2 drops Cardamom essential oil, 2 drops Ginger essential oil and 2 tbsp turbinado sugar for sprinkling.
Preheat oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or 2 knives. Toss in blueberries. Measure the milk then drop in the two drops Cardamom and 2 drops Ginger. Pour the milk into the batter and stir gently to combine. Divide the dough in half and form two large balls. Form them into 6-inch circles and cut each circle into 6 triangles (scone shapes). Place scones onto the baking sheet and sprinkle sugar onto each scone. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Pro tip: Double the recipe and throw the extras in the freezer to have at a later date.
3. Peppermint Cocoa Mix
Nothing says winter fun like being snuggled up by the fire with a cozy blanket and a mug of hot cocoa. Did you know you can add a drop of Peppermint essential oil for some additional awesomeness?
You can also make gifts, or To Go Cocoas for friends using the following recipe:
To make 5 gifts you will need 1 cup dark chocolate chips, 1 cup turbinado sugar, ⅛ tsp salt, ⅔ cup dark cocoa powder, ½ cup whole milk powder, Peppermint essential oil, 5 gift bags, 5 spoons, 5 mugs (check options at the dollar store!), and 5 two ml sample vials.
Place the dark chocolate, sugar, salt, cocoa powder, and milk powder in a food processor. Chop/mix for about 10 seconds until all mixed together. Place about ½ cup of the mix into each of the 5 gift bags and attach a spoon with a twist tie to close. Place the bag and the spoon in the mug. Add about 10 drops of Peppermint to each of the sample vials and place in the mug as well. Include the following instructions if desired!
To use: Mix 4 tablespoons of gourmet cocoa powder with 8 oz of very hot water and 1 drop of Peppermint essential oil.
4. Tummy Tamer Roller
